Erected in 1843, this home is among the many oldest in Marshall. It got here to be generally known as "Hillside" a reputation derived fromits outstanding location. The home was designed within the Gothic Revival model. Its structure and landscaping have been seemingly influenced by the design for a "Cottage within the English or Rural Gothic Fashion" in Cottage Residences, a well-liked guide of home plans by panorama gardener Andrew Jackson Downing that was printed in 1842. – James Brennan, www.michmarkers.com
